Medical referral for counselling of children & adolescents
Doctors make referrals to help clients cope with a variety of psychological issues.
Reasons why doctors might refer:
- School refusal or anxiety.
- Study anxiety.
- Depression.
- Friendship issues at school that are causing significant distress to an individual.
- Interpersonal therapy.
- Life or personal coaching.
- Stress related to school or university, or
- Family and relationship conflict.
School Psychology Services is registered with Medicare and can provide services under the category of Individual Focused Psychological Strategies provided by a psychologist.
Communication with medical doctors
Communication between the referring doctor and School Psychology Services is important. School Psychology Services provide communication with doctors about client welfare and progress by telephone or email.
Written correspondence is provided after the first, sixth and twelfth session.
Mental health plan
Medical Doctors bill clients under the Medicare Item 2710.
