Medical referral for psychological assessment

Doctors may see young clients who are anxious and school refusing. This may be due to acedemic related anxiety.

Reasons why doctors may refer for psychological assessment:

• To gain an understanding of anxiety related to school and cognitive tasks.
• To gain an understanding of an individual’s learning needs.
• To screen for gifted children.
• To assess learning disabilities in children.

Key Assessments:

• The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children–Fourth Edition (WISC–IV).
• Wechsler Individual Achievement Test–Second Edition (WIAT–II).
